Exploring Global Citizenship Education in the Local – Experiences from the Global Campus Online Project

Global Citizenship Education (GCED), the political pedagogical practice for a critical, solidaristic and responsible inhabitance of our shared Homeland Earth (Morin), is becoming an ever more important perspective in today’s interconnected and globalized world. To enhance and support this practice and to (re)search for practical examples of lived Global Citizenship (Education), the UNESCO Chair for GCED at the University of Klagenfurt, Austria, has started the Global Campus Online, a space where researchers, practitioners, activists, artists and students from various world regions and backgrounds come together to discuss the pressing issues of the 21st century and their implications for education. They then further plan, discuss and implement small glocal best practice projects. In the Panel we will shortly present the outlines of the project, followed by a discussion with two participants of GloCo. In dialogue with the UNESCO Chair holder Prof. Hans Karl Peterlini, the Gloco participants and the two GloCo facilitators, Christiane Faymann and Elisabeth Rinne, talk about their experiences, encountered barriers and perceived potential within the project.
