In South Korea, as in many other countries, the ubiquity of high-speed internet and portable mobile devices, the decline of traditional media and the rise of social media have blurred the lines between propaganda and journalism, and led to an abundance of fake news and abuse. Media literacy education as a training to develop a critical eye for quality information in order to become a good citizen or to raise young people as good citizens has become a challenge for Korean society that can no longer be postponed. In this session, we will look at the current status of media literacy education in South Korea and Canada, and discuss the urgency and prerequisites for starting media literacy education now through social consensus, and the methodology that fits South Korean society.

다른 많은 국가들에서와 마찬가지로 한국에서도 초고속 인터넷과 휴대용 모바일기기의 보편화, 전통적 미디어의 쇠퇴와 소셜미디어의 발달과 더불어 프로파간다와 언론보도의 경계가 모호해지고, 가짜뉴스와 어뷰징이 넘쳐나게 되었다. 좋은시민이 되기 위해 또는 청소년을 좋은 시민으로 길러내기 위해 양질의 정보를 선별하는 눈을 기르는 훈련으로서의 미디어 리터러시 교육은 더 이상 미룰 수 없는 한국 사회의 과제가 되었다. 이 세션에서는 한국과 해외의 미디어리터러시 교육의 현황을 살펴보고, 사회적 합의를 통해 지금 당장 시작해야할 미디어리서터리 교육의 당위성과 선결과제, 그리고 한국사회에 맞는 방법론에 대하여 이야기하고자 한다.
